The project focuses on art collectors, who, along with the increase in their numbers and purchasing power in the new millennium, have become a relevant phenomenon. As previous studies suggest, although private art collectors are guided solely by their individual preferences in selecting acquisitions, they have the potential to become influential authorities shaping artistic tastes and values within the broader art field. The first goal of the project is to address the financial aspects of art consumption providing an insight into decades of academic knowledge emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive and nuanced approach to evaluating art as an investment. Building on the literature review by Kolbe et al. (2022), the second following research addresses the need for empirical investigation in the field of private art collectors, which has thus far been limited to a few case studies. The proposed ethnographic qualitative inquiry closely examines the purchasing behaviour of private art collectors as key customers of artistic production when selecting new acquisitions.
