This project investigates the impact of domestic competition on beer export volumes within the European Union, with a particular focus on the rapid rise of microbreweries. By employing an Augmented Gravity Model of Trade and analyzing data from 2017 to 2022, the study provides robust evidence that the intensification of domestic competition, as captured by the ratio of microbreweries to total breweries, significantly enhances beer exports. The expected findings are that countries with a more dynamic microbrewery sector tend to exhibit higher export volumes, supporting the hypothesis that intense domestic rivalry supports innovation, efficiency, and international competitiveness. Additional findings aim to underscore the importance of fostering a competitive domestic environment for export growth, offering valuable insights for industry stakeholders and policymakers aiming to leverage the dynamics of the beer industry to bolster trade performance. This research aims to contribute to the broader discourse on international trade and industrial organization by demonstrating how small-scale market entrants can influence macro-level export outcomes in a rapidly evolving sector.
