Automation is profoundly transforming industries, redefining work processes, and reshaping the skills demanded in modern labor markets. Advanced technologies, including industrial robots, service robots, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA), are increasingly automating routine tasks, enhancing productivity, and driving innovation. However, these advancements also present significant challenges, particularly in regions and sectors heavily reliant on low-skill employment, where job displacement and growing inequality are prominent concerns. This study examines the dual effects of automation—task displacement and productivity-driven job creation—and their broader implications for employment and skill development. Focusing on EU, where regional disparities in economic structures and workforce preparedness shape the outcomes of automation, this research investigates how these technologies are reshaping labor markets and skill requirements across different sectors. Despite the rapid integration of automation technologies, there is a notable lack of comprehensive evidence on how these effects interact and which on will dominate -displacement or productivity?
