The level of economic education of Czech high school students is an unexplored area. A detailed study that would thoroughly assess how Czech secondary school students understand the basic principles of economics has not yet been conducted. The design of this research thus complements a rich collection of similar analyses from other countries for the first time. The primary data source for analysis will be the results of high school students in the Czech Economic Olympiad (EO), organized by the Institute of Economic Education (INEV). The goal of the research is to determine the knowledge of Czech students in basic areas of economics, financial literacy, and economic policy. The project will also target the relative success of students based on the following categories that have been studied in the global scholarly literature: Type of school, region, grade, gender, previous participation in the competition. Individual student characteristics will further be controlled for by variables such as academic performance, highest education level of parents, and the number of hours of economics or financial literacy in the given high school. The main method for data analysis will be cross-sectional regression.
